Room data sheets (or RDS) are used to systematically capture the information and requirements for each room on the project. They are usually created by the client at the time of briefing (also known as architectural programming in the US) of the design process. They may be updated throughout the design process to reflect changes or to provide more information to those who are responsible for delivering the project.

The Room Data Sheets SmartTool is an accurate and reliable sheet view and schedule building utility that can be used to create rooms (or space) sheets of data in the Revit project. The tool is able to create 3D, plans, elevations and view schedules for rooms or spaces that are named parametrically and numbered on new sheets.

The tool will default to the Room Numbering Template and Sheet Format that are set by the Revit Project. However you can choose the preferred sheet style and name from the Tool Options tab. Or, you can click ‘Load Configuration’ …’ on the toolbar to load previously saved configurations that will replace the current settings. This will reduce the amount of manual re-work needed for each different room or space size and type.

The tab ‘Naming’ allows the user to choose whether the room or space you select is included in the sheet’s Name text box that appears on the left side of the screen. The ‘View Title:’ option specifies what text appears in the title bar for each view. ‘View Increment’ specifies how many increments there are between each view on the sheet. The option ‘Spacing’ can be turned on to regulate the space between each view on the sheet, and’Exclude View Titles in Estimating View Sizes on Sheets:’ will prevent titles from being included when determining the number of views that will fit on a page.
